The Power of Imperfect Action!

This past week – I took the initiative to host my very first teleseminar. Of course, I made sure to practice the content I planned to share, double-check all the “techy” features were working, and promote the event to my list to make sure they were all informed!
Despite all this practice, excitement, and getting ready – my teleseminar quickly went from an exciting event to a technology disaster. What all went wrong? Let’s do a quick overview:
- I got booted off of my OWN conference line!
- My recording sure has a lot of background noise and static, but NONE OF MY VOICE!
- can’t confirm it for certain; but to my knowledge NONE of my listeners could even hear me on the line – just a bunch of crackling and static!
What I had planned to be my “big debut” to my list turned out to be nothing more than an embarassing failure. While for several moments I was down, frustrated, and really, really discouraged…I finally came to realize something.
As botched as it was, my first teleseminar was JUST THAT – my first teleseminar. I took action and followed through despite the obstacles.
One lesson I have learned from my mentors has been that you don’t have to get things PERFECT, you just have to get them going. I’ve got the momentum of that first “stumble” of a teleseminar behnd me; motivating me even more aggressively to make my next event a smashing success…motivation I may not have had if my first time around had gone 100% smoothly.
Not only that, but the flukes of this teleseminar provided me with an array of blessings in disguise…as now I am able to even further review and enhance my content for the recording I will be sending out to my list, and this list has grown bigger than it originally was because I have people who are chomping at the bit to get the recording of this information!
So – from this “disaster”of a teleseminar, I have the end results of delivering an even better final product than planned, coupled with a hungry and ever-growing list of people who want what I have to offer!
So much for being an “epic fail”, huh?
Does that take away the sting of my first-ever teleseminar being a blunder? Heck no! However, what it does do is give me some serious perspective about failure, and once again prove that hands down, taking imperfect action beats having taken no action at all.
